English 11 week of October 3

Reading time is 20 minutes this week

Monday - Sample memoirs: Boxes - similarities and differences of theme, tone and sensory language.

Tuesday/Wednesday - PSAT Information with Mrs. Williams; Hyphen and Dash practice from PSAT?NMSQT booklet. Memoir sample - Failing Successfully - identify tone, sensory language. Homework - Choose another event to write about 100-300 words; Homework - Google Classroom - answer the question: What engages readers in the public and/or private lives of individuals? 

Thursday/Friday - Memoir sample - Failing Successfully - evaluate with final draft narrative rubric; Discussion on choice of memoir to develop into final draft; Writing; Speed reading test - write down WPM and Comprehension % for charting growth.

Creative Writing week of October 3

Monday - Reading Flashfiction story to class

Wednesday - Finish reading Flashfiction story; Discussion of weather in setting - how do you add it? when is it relevant? Favorite fictional character - what makes the character so interesting - discuss and share. "In search of an exit" Twilight Zone episode; discussion of character development.

Friday - The Foghorn by Ray Bradbury activity and discussion about characters and settings.

Reading time will be 15 minutes daily.

Monday - Memoir writing: Bad Habit. What is your bad habit? Why do you do it? Peer discussion and writing (50 - 250 words). Homework:  Choose another event from your list of 6 to write about 100-300 words.

(50-500 words); Homework - Google Classroom - Take notes on Hyphens and Dashes; complete the assignment on Hyphens and Dashes.

Thursday/Friday - 2 song clip - compare and contrast Tone; Watch Six Word slideshow. Share your Theme song - play a clip and talk about why you chose it.

Monday - Khan Academy and PSAT.

Tuesday/Wednesday - Parts of Speech 2 truths and a lie quiz on Google Classroom. How to write a memoir; Samples of memoirs. Compare/contrast samples with how to. Create a list of events that you might want to explore. Homework: (Google Classroom) Review parts of speech and write about an event on your list. Homework: List of 6 events you want to write about; choose 1 event to write about in your single subject notebook (50 - 300 words)

Thursday/Friday - Memoirs: meet and greet activity. Create and add to Goodreads account. Identify parts of speech.

Wednesday - Warm up. Wrap up drafting during class. Self edit, and include title at top and as name of document. Attach to Flashfiction assignment on Google Classroom.

Friday - Warm up. Edit flashfiction based on Luttke's recommendations.

Monday - Library time and reading

Tuesday/Wednesday - Reading time - 5 minutes; Pretest in Schoolnet; Vocabulary - discussion and individual work (learning goal); Writing assignment; Homework - GC video on Memoirs.

Thursday/Friday - Reading time - 5 minutes; Article on Memoir; Discussion and GC individual response; Notes on Memoir writing; Parts of Speech review - 2 truths and a lie.


Creative Writing week of September 12

Monday - Warm up writing; Visit Flashfiction.com website. Discuss what flashfiction is and look at samples.

Wednesday - Warm up writing; Reading some sample flashfiction; group discussion - what did you notice about the samples; Create a class list of common elements. Assignment expectations. Plot diagram - due by Friday.

Friday - Look at plot diagram; what to limit in your writing and what to emphasize. Dialogue rules. Start draft.
