English 11 week of October 30

Monday - review pre-test Reading; Reading strategy: Passage mapping notes and practice with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Homework: take notes on Subject-Pronoun Agreement slideshow in Language Group Work Folder in Schoology.

Tuesday/Wednesday - Informational Reading vocabulary - graded. Passage Mapping practice with The Declaration of Independence - create slideshow to profile passage mapping.

Thursday/Friday - Passage mapping notes on each section of Declaration of Independence. Reflective writing: How do we balance the tension between individual rights and the common good of all the people? Language group work - Subject-Pronoun Agreement.

Creative Writing week of October 30

Monday - work time for Character and Setting sketches and plot diagram.

Tuesday - present idea to Ms Luttke and one other person; Drafting of Short Story

Thursday - Drafting of short story

Monday - The Patriot wrap up. Reminder - next class Language assessment on Subject-Verb Agreement, Parallelism and Comparisons, students may use their notes on the assessment.

Tuesday/Wednesday - Language assessment; Goodreads review - submit link to Luttke via email for feedback.

Thursday/Friday - Reading pre-test; Vocabulary - Informational Reading unit. If time: Reading Strategy - Passage mapping.

Creative Writing week of October 23

Monday - Writing warm-up. Twilight Zone "5 Characters in Search of an Exit". Discussion on typecasting and stereotypical behavior in support characters. Contests for Short Stories - ideas for entering short story.

Tuesday - Short story assignment. Create setting and character sketches.

Thursday - Share setting and character sketches with peers. Create plot diagram.

English 11 week of October 16

Monday - (2nd/7th hour: Comparison practice)

Reflection on Informational essay unit -

Looking back on the discussions, research, essay writing, and presentation during this unit, reflect on a strength and weakness of yours. How will you use the strength in the next unit and how will you improve your weakness?


Tuesday/Wednesday - Begin watching The Patriot. If you do not wish your student to view this movie, feel free to email me at aluttke@homeoftheshamrocks.org. I will have an alternative assignment for them in the library.


Wednesday is a half day, here is the schedule:


Thursday/Friday - Continue viewing The Patriot.

NEXT WEEK: SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT ON LANGUAGE ELEMENTS - SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT, PARALLELISM, AND COMPARISONS. IT WILL BE AN SAT TYPE ASSESSMENT.

Creative Writing week of October 16

Monday - Setting sketch based on the 3 placed students visited last week.

Tuesday - Character sketch - divide class half with Elisha creating a character, half with me. Flip a coin for protagonist/antagonist.

Thursday - Use two characters in a scene. Must have conflict!

Monday - Parallelism practice; 2nd hour - presentation work time; 8th hour - Speedreading test and book goal commitment for MP 1. Homework - notes on Comparison slideshow in Language Group work folder.



Tuesday/Wednesday - Presentation work time and practice. Language group work - discussion of Comparison.

PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday morning!

Thursday/Friday - Presentations in class on Post High School Plans. Practice Comparison.
